Avero Educational Experience - New York City

August 1-4, 2011

Annually, through the generosity of Avero's Damian Mogavero and his talented team, one fortunate ECF scholarship recipient experiences an exclusive, behind-the-scenes immersion into the New York City hospitality and culinary industries.  This year, Karina Saucedo - a Junior at UNLV was selected to venture East for this once in a lifetime experience.  (pictured with Damian Mogavero)

Over the course of four days, Karina Saucedo met with and learned from prominent chefs, managers and restaurateurs while experiencing some of city’s most progressive dining trends. The experience educates the recipient about what it takes to operate a successful, high-profile NYC restaurant and kitchen. Karina spent substantial time at Avero’s headquarters, meeting with the executive team and shadowing several team members. She experienced a once-in-a-lifetime learning experience that will serve as inspiration throughout her Food and Beverage Career.

Karina experienced the hospitality offered at the Dream Hotel in New York City. She enjoyed the decadent offerings of : Colicchio & Sons, Dos Caminos, Spice Market, The Standard, Buddakhan, The Coffee Shop, Spasso, Maialino and Craftbar. She had unique and insightful tours of the High Line, Union Square Green Market, Chelsea Market, Eleven Madison, and a New York City Food Truck tour.

She also saw The Phantom of the Opera, and visited: the Empire State Building, Central Park, The Plaza, the World Trade Center, the Statue of Liberty, Radio City Music Hall and Rockefeller Center.

Karina had an absolutely incredible experience in New York and was exposed to different aspects of the hospitality and food and beverage industries throughout her stay. We would like to thank Avero for their generosity and commitment to our students. Please see Karina's blog from her time in New York on our Facebook page.

Special and heartfelt thanks to Damian Mogavero and the team at Avero!
